The HighGrove vision was inspired by the estate of Prince Charles in England for two reasons. First, the Beane family arrived on the land in Illinois from Norwich, England in 1848 and seeks to honor their English heritage. Second, protection of the land, the environment, and sustainability are the driving forces for this development, as is the case for Prince Charles' HighGrove Estate. The same "organic" principles utilized at Prince Charles' estate and farm will preserve the legacy of the Beane Homestead by application of the same environmental protections. From the wastewater treatment system, utilizing reclaimed water for irrigation to bioswale/rain gardens to manage stormwater, the two HighGroves will share several common bonds.
Native plants and trees will be featured throughout the 6-acre, 220 tree entrance boulevard; in the three formal one-acre gardens centering each of the three neighborhoods; in the wetland pond edges; and throughout the 55-acre open prairie.
